Splendid Spoon Offerings

  1. 5-Day Detox

Splendid 5-Day Detox may support reduced inflammation, improved digestion, and gut microbiome balance through a structured five-day eating routine that combines plant-based meals with intermittent fasting.

The formulation of the detox is a system of 30 items consumed over five days, including 25 whole-food meals and 5 superfood shots. Fiber is the central component, with the program including fruits, vegetables, and whole foods that together may provide high levels of soluble and insoluble fiber. Fiber is generally associated with supporting digestion, promoting regular bowel movements, and serving as a substrate for beneficial gut bacteria, which may influence microbiome composition.

Protein and complex carbohydrates are also include into the meals through ingredients such as lentils, beans, whole grains, and seeds. These nutrients are typically involved in supporting muscle maintenance, energy production, and blood sugar regulation. The combination of protein with complex carbohydrates may help sustain satiety and reduce rapid fluctuations in glucose levels. The makers have included daily superfood shots containing ingredients such as aloe and moringa, which are commonly associated with antioxidant activity and may contribute to nutrient intake.

The program has a structured eating pattern with six daily eating moments, including a breakfast followed by a mix of soups, smoothies, and dishes, and ending with a shot that signals the start of the fasting period. The use of warm meals at the beginning of the day is presented as a way to ease digestion, while the variety of meal types may help maintain adherence by offering different textures and flavors.

  2. Smoothies

Splendid Spoon Smoothies may support convenient nutrition and increased plant intake through ready-to-drink blends made from fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. The makers have added organic pea protein in certain formulations, such as the Cacao Almond Smoothies, which may support protein intake and muscle maintenance. Baobab powder has been added as well, which is typically associated with fiber and vitamin C content, and may contribute to digestive support and antioxidant intake.

Across the category, different smoothie variants such as Chocolate Cherry Smoothie and Raspberry Cacao Smoothie emphasize cacao-based profiles, while options like Power Greens Smoothie and Fruity Greens Smoothie incorporate greens such as wheatgrass or spinach that may contribute micronutrients and phytonutrients.Variants such as Banana Flax Smoothie and Carrot Ginger Chia Smoothie include seeds like flax or chia, which are generally associated with fiber and omega-3 fatty acids, potentially influencing digestion and satiety.

  3. Shots

Shots are concentrated fruit juices made with plant-derived ingredients that may support digestion, recovery, and immunity. Ingredients such as orange juice, apple juice, watermelon juice, and lemon juice form the primary base depending on the variant. These juices typically provide natural sugars, hydration, and vitamins. The inclusion of ingredients like ginger and turmeric in products such as The Digestion Shot and The Recovery Shot may influence gastrointestinal activity and inflammatory pathways, while citrus-based components may contribute to vitamin C and acidity.

The makers have also added ingredients such as apple cider vinegar, elderberry, camu camu, moringa, spirulina, and beet juice in products like The Wellness Shot and The Detox Shot.  These ingredients are generally associated with functions like immune support, nutrient density, and circulation. Himalayan salt is included in certain products, which may provide trace minerals and contribute to electrolyte balance.

Splendid Spoon Advantages

  1. Chef-Led Brand Positioning

Splendid Spoon states that it was founded by Nicole Centeno, a French Culinary Institute–trained chef and former research biologist. She developed the brand while working in media roles at Condé Nast, Wired, and The New Yorker. Before launching the company in 2013, she also ran catering events, hosted pop-ups, and taught cooking and nutrition at Columbia University.

The company follows internal tasting standards, requiring recipes to meet defined quality scores before release. It also emphasizes ingredient sourcing, selecting specific produce to maintain consistency across meals. Early recipes were created by Centeno and later scaled by a broader culinary team.

This chef-led foundation supports structured recipe development, balanced ingredient combinations, and more consistent flavor profiles. It reflects a culinary-first approach rather than a purely functional one, which may improve taste and overall meal experience. If you prioritize flavor and variety, this approach can make it comparatively easier to stay consistent with your routine.

  2. Culinary-Science Brand Positioning

Splendid Spoon focuses on whole, plant-based foods, including vegetables, legumes, grains, and plant-based fats. It avoids heavy reliance on processed additives or isolated ingredients, with recipes designed to balance protein, fiber, and fats in a simple, structured way. The brand also follows a defined testing process, where recipes are scored for flavor and composition before launch. The brand highlights that it develops meals based on real dishes and seasonal ingredients, combining familiar cooking methods with practical nutrition goals. This approach keeps meals both functional and enjoyable.

Splendid Spoon Limitations

  1. Brand Experience Tied to Routines

Splendid Spoon structures its service around recurring schedules and guided routines. It encourages consistent eating patterns through curated plans, with subscriptions aligned to fixed delivery timeframes. This setup supports routine-based use rather than occasional or on-demand consumption.

This structure can limit adaptability. The service works best when you follow a steady schedule and predictably use meals, placing more emphasis on consistency than on adjusting to changing daily needs. It means you may need to plan around delivery cycles and maintain a consistent routine to get full value. If your schedule changes often or you prefer a more flexible approach, this model can feel restrictive and less convenient to maintain.

  2. Pre-Set Plan Structure Constraints

Splendid Spoon limits flexibility through its plan-based structure, where meals are organized into fixed bundles instead of a fully customizable, pay-per-item system. Plans such as the 5-Day Detox (Reset) and Weekly options are built around a set number of meals per week, reinforcing a predefined framework.

You choose from plan sizes like 6, 12, or 18 meals and then select options from a curated menu of over 50 pre-made Smoothies, Bowls, and Dishes. This allows some level of customization, but only within the boundaries of the selected plan rather than complete control over each order.

Due to this structure, making small, one-off adjustments is not always straightforward. If your needs change, you may need to modify your plan size, swap multiple items, or switch between plan types. This can feel restrictive if your routine is variable or if you prefer a more flexible, on-demand ordering approach.

Splendid Spoon Alternatives

  1. Sakara Life

Sakara Life combines organic, ready-to-eat meals with products, functional snacks, and wellness programs that are guided by its 9 Pillars of Nutrition. It aims to target areas like digestion, inflammation, blood sugar balance, hormone support, energy levels, and skin clarity. The brand’s offerings also draw from both modern nutrition science and traditional healing practices, with an emphasis on supporting the microbiome through plant-rich ingredients. Splendid Spoon, in comparison, simplifies plant-based eating through structured meal routines that focus on fiber-rich whole foods, balanced macronutrients, and a 16:8 intermittent fasting framework to support digestion, energy, and metabolic health without requiring a broader lifestyle commitment.

The breadth of offerings also highlights some differences in ecosystem depth. Sakara Life expands beyond meals into offerings and functional products, including options like the Beauty Biome synbiotic and Metabolism Bite thermogenic gummies. It also offers bundles such as the Best Sellers Bundle, priced around $221, and targeted options like the Calm and Burn Gummy Bundle. On the other hand, Splendid Spoon keeps its offering centered on food, including smoothies, soups, grain bowls, noodle dishes, and wellness shots like immunity or digestion blends. However, it does not extend into capsules, powders, or product-based routines.

The structure of meal programs further supports their differences. Sakara Life features a Signature Nutrition Program with options to choose 3 to 5 days per week and combinations like breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Its pricing ranges from about $253 to $395 per week, depending on meal selection. Meals are delivered ready-to-eat and designed using over 200 high-quality, whole-food ingredients, with a rotating weekly menu that includes options like Heart and Soul shawarma bowls, Microbiome Mojo salads, and Serotonin Glow parfaits. Splendid Spoon, on the other hand, offers subscription plans starting at 6, 12, or 18 meals per week, with meals starting at around $9.99. It also features a standalone 5-day detox priced at $299 that includes 30 options and does not require a subscription, making it easier to access without committing to a recurring plan.

In terms of preparation and daily usability, both brands offer ready-to-eat meals but deliver different experiences. Sakara Life leans toward a premium, chef-crafted approach with meals that are fully prepared and designed to feel indulgent yet clean. Its meals are supported by rotating menus and optional add-ons like drinks and proteins. Meanwhile, Splendid Spoon emphasizes speed and simplicity, with pre-portioned meals that can be stored in your fridge or freezer and prepared in minutes, making them suitable for busy schedules and minimal planning. Another major difference lies in how each brand integrates functional wellness products. Sakara Life combines products directly into its system, encouraging you to combine meals with products like Night Service and fiber blends derived from multiple fruits and vegetables. However, Splendid Spoon does not extend into products, instead limiting functional elements to food-based additions like superfood shots included in detox plans.

Sakara Life combines meals, formulas, and lifestyle guidance into a structured program designed for transformation. Meanwhile, Splendid Spoon focuses on delivering convenient, flexible, and nutritionally balanced plant-based meals that fit into your routine with minimal effort.

  2. Daily Harvest

Daily Harvest and Splendid Spoon both center their offerings around plant-based convenience, but they differ significantly in how they structure everyday eating. As per its official website, Daily Harvest focuses on helping you build a habit of consuming fruits and vegetables through organic smoothies, oat bowls, functional elixirs, and organic pea protein powders. Its products are frozen for peak nutrients and delivered directly to your door. Splendid Spoon, in comparison, presents itself as a complete plant-based meal delivery system, offering more than 50 to 60 options, including smoothies, grain bowls, soups, noodles, and wellness shots, all designed to fit into a full-day routine from breakfast to dinner.

The difference becomes clearer when you look at meal coverage and variety. Daily Harvest primarily supports lighter eating occasions with smoothies for quick meal swaps, oat bowls for breakfast, and elixirs for vitamin-rich drinks, along with nutrition support boxes and starter kits. On the other hand, Splendid Spoon extends beyond this by offering meals or immunity shots, allowing you to cover multiple eating moments throughout the day. Its menu includes over 60 plant-rich options built from hundreds of whole-food ingredients, which creates a broader and more diverse eating experience compared to Daily Harvest’s more focused lineup.

Their nutritional positioning also reflects different priorities in execution. Daily Harvest emphasizes certified organic ingredients, dairy-free and gluten-free formulations, and plant-based nutrition with options delivering 20g of protein, high fiber content, and ingredients rich in vitamin C. It highlights 45 different types of plants across its offerings and focuses on simple, repeatable habits built on whole fruits and vegetables. Splendid Spoon, on the other hand, structures its meals around balanced macronutrients designed to keep you full, while also supporting digestion, gut health, and energy levels. It claims that its meals are 100% plant-based, non-GMO, gluten-free, dairy-free, and free from artificial sugars, with a strong emphasis on fiber-rich foods and microbiome support.

Daily Harvest states that its products can be ready in under three minutes but often require a small step, such as blending smoothies or heating oat bowls. The brand positions this as an easy prep while still allowing some level of user involvement. Splendid Spoon removes this step entirely by offering fully prepared meals that require zero prep and are ready in minutes, whether stored in the fridge or freezer. This distinction makes Splendid Spoon more aligned with users who want to eliminate all preparation, while Daily Harvest still keeps a minimal interaction with the product.

Customization and ordering flexibility highlight another contrast. Daily Harvest allows you to build your own box, starting with at least six options. It also offers both one-time purchases and subscription options, with delivery frequencies of 1, 2, or 4 weeks. The brand provides perks like free shipping on larger orders, smoothie kits, and the ability to skip or cancel anytime. Meanwhile, Splendid Spoon uses a more structured system where you choose from meal plans starting at 6, 12, or 18 meals per week, or opt for specific programs like a seasonal reset or a full fridge takeover. While it also allows skipping or modifying deliveries, the experience is more guided and goal-oriented compared to Daily Harvest’s flexible mix-and-match model.

Structured programs and guided nutrition are areas where Splendid Spoon goes further. Daily Harvest offers a 3-day detox box with 12 smoothies curated by nutritionists to help you feel refreshed and nourished. On the other hand, Splendid Spoon provides a more intensive 5-day detox program priced at $299, which includes 25 meals, 5 superfood shots, and a detailed eating schedule with six daily eating moments. It also combines a 16-hour intermittent fasting window and uses over 200 superfood ingredients to support digestion, metabolism, and balance. This creates a more immersive and guided experience compared to Daily Harvest’s simpler detox offering.

As per their official website, Pricing structures further reflect how each brand is positioned. Daily Harvest follows an item-based pricing model, with smoothies typically priced around $8.49 to $9.49 and oat bowls around $7.79, along with discounts such as 15 percent off the first box and 10 percent ongoing for subscribers. Splendid Spoon uses a per-meal pricing structure starting at around $9.99 per meal, with higher-priced programs like the 5-day detox at $299.

  • Ready-to-eat convenience.
  • Customizable meal selection.
  • Features a structured 5-day cleanse plan.

How Did We Evaluate?

  1. Brand Reputation

To understand Splendid Spoon’s brand reputation, we evaluated it using publicly available information from the BBB, where it currently holds a C+ rating. Common concerns in the past have included pricing and perceived value, with some indicating that meals may feel expensive relative to portion size or ingredients. There have also been mentions of delivery and logistics issues, such as delays or inconsistent shipping performance.

However, at the time of writing this review, we found that the brand appears to have limited appearances on platforms such as Reviews.io, Yelp, Thingtesting, and Tenereteam, which makes it difficult to assess the brand’s overall reputation.

  2. Real User Experiences

We evaluated the real user experiences of Splendid Spoon based on publicly available feedback from Trustpilot, where it holds a TrustScore of 4.5 out of 5 from 140+ reviews. Customers frequently describe the food quality, especially when it comes to plant-based options like smoothies and soups.

Several users mention relying on the smoothies as a regular breakfast or snack, noting their flavor, nutritional balance, and convenience. They also describe the subscription model as easy to manage, with the ability to skip deliveries or adjust plans without difficulty. Customer service receives mixed but generally favorable feedback, with some users describing prompt and helpful responses.

However, pricing is one of the most common concerns, with some customers questioning the value, especially given the perception of meals as frozen and relatively simple.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does Splendid Spoon support high-protein diet requirements?
Yes. The brand supports high-protein diets through select plant-based meals, particularly in its Dishes category, with around 16g or more protein per serving. Some options may provide higher protein, though overall intake may still need additional protein intake.
  • Does Splendid Spoon support customization based on food preferences?
Yes. The brand supports customization by letting you choose individual plant-based meals and apply filters for ingredients, dietary needs, and goals like high protein or low sugar. However, customization is limited to meal selection rather than modifying individual ingredients.
  • Does Splendid Spoon support allergen filtering during ordering?
Yes. The brand supports allergen filtering by allowing you to exclude ingredients like nuts, soy, and sesame during ordering. While all meals are plant-based and gluten-free, you need to manually apply filters to refine suitable options.

Conclusion

Splendid Spoon focuses on simplifying plant-based eating through fully prepared meals that do not need any cooking or planning. However, the structured system limits flexibility. You select from fixed plans rather than building orders freely, which can make it harder to adjust meals based on changing preferences, appetite, or schedule.

While plant-based meals can improve fiber intake, they may not always provide sufficient protein or calories for every individual, particularly if your needs vary day to day. If you are considering using Splendid Spoon, review how well the meals align with your intake needs and routine. You may need to add external protein sources or calorie-dense foods to meet daily requirements. The liquid-heavy format, especially with smoothies, may not provide the same level of satiety as solid meals for some people.

The subscription structure requires ongoing management to pause or modify deliveries, which may not suit irregular schedules. These factors, along with limited customization and fixed portions, remain important considerations before relying on the service long term.
