Black Ash
Fraxinus nigra

This medium-sized deciduous tree, native to northeastern North America, has thick gray bark that becomes fissured with age. Its wood splits easily and is used by Native Americans to make baskets.

Habitat:Swamps, moist woods, along streams.
Growth Habit:Deciduous tree, growing 12-25 m tall.
Bloom Time:Early spring.
Longevity:Up to 130 years or more.
